In addition to having responsibility for much of the day to day operation of the practice, David provides eye care services at Royal Cornhill Hospital and Aboyne Hospital, and he currently lists his main areas of clinical interest as Glaucoma and Macular Degeneration.

In both 2008 and 2010, David made it to the final shortlist in the ‘Optometrist of the Year’ category at the national Optician Awards.

Away from work he enjoys playing Golf and Squash, and spending time with his (and Gillian’s) two young daughters Elise and Freya.

Gillian Corry | BScHons MCOptom   Gillian Corry | BScHons MCOptom
Gillian grew up in Aberdeen and studied at Glasgow Caledonian University qualifying as an Optometrist in 1993.

Having spent all her working life in her home city, she has built up a large and loyal patient base, many of whom have recommended her to their friends and families over the years.

Gillian joined her husband David and her father Leslie at Corry & Christie in 2005 following the birth of her younger daughter, and enjoys day to day interaction with the wide variety of patients the practice serves, listing Contact Lens work among her main areas of clinical interest

Away from work Gillian spends much of her time ferrying her daughters to their various activities throughout the city, although she did find time to train for and complete the Edinburgh Moonwalk in 2008, and the Fraserburgh Moonlight Prowl in 2009 (both walks undertaken for Breast Cancer Research).

Dispensing Team

Jodie Blain | FBDO CL

Jodie Blain | FBDO CL | Contact Lens Manager/Dispensing Optician
Jodie qualified as a Dispensing Optician in 1997, and has since gained further specialist qualifications in Contact Lens Practice.

She joined Corry & Christie in 2009 as Contact Lens Manager, and her dual qualifications and versatility have made her a valuable addition to the practice team.

In addition to running the contact lens side of the business, Jodie provides ChromagenTM and Dry Eye Assessments for patients, and she also maintains a keen interest in spectacle dispensing.

Outside of work she keeps fit through yoga and swimming, and enjoys hillwalking (as long as the weather is nice!)

Anita Burr | FBDO   Anita Burr | FBDO | Low Vision Manager/Dispensing Optician
Having started her career as an Optical Technician, Anita brings a wide range of skills to her dispensing role.

A desire to have more interaction with patients and customers led her to re-train and qualify as a Dispensing Optician, a role at which she now has considerable experience. She joined Corry & Christie in May 2007, and now has principal responsibility for frame buying, stock control and resolving technical dispensing issues.

Along with David, Anita also runs the practice’s Low Vision Service. Outside work she enjoys watching films and concerts, and spending time with her young niece and nephew.

Suzan Gavin   Suzan Gavin
Suzan is the practice’s longest serving staff member, having originally joined in 1978 when it was still based in Exchange St.

Her experience and versatility make her a valuable asset to the practice and while she enjoys having a variety of roles she lists frame buying, and spectacle dispensing, as among her favourite.

Suzan has also been responsible for advising the majority of the practice’s new contact lens patients on the handling of their lenses - a job at which she has an extremely high success rate.

Away from work, Suzan and her husband Graham have a wide social network, and she likes nothing better than some retail therapy.

Receptionists/Clinical Assistants

Fiona Thomson

Fiona Thomson
Fiona started her career in Optical Reception at the age of sixteen, and joined Corry & Christie in 2005. Her easy going, and efficient personality ensure patients and customers are made to feel welcome in the practice, and as a spectacle wearer, she is always happy to give her opinion on a choice of frame or sunglasses when asked.

In addition to helping manage a busy reception, Fiona is also known to organise a very efficient family home (!) for her two teenage daughters and husband Alan.

Shirley Ewen

Shirley Ewen
Shirley is our newest recruit, having joining the practice in July 2014. With many years experience in both Optical and Dental reception, she has very quickly become a valuable addition to the team and her expertise has helped the smooth running of the practice.

Away from work, Shirley enjoys helping to look after her two young granddaughters, and spending time with her daughters. She also enjoys holidaying with her husband Ernie (especially when it involves cruising on the med!)
